Earthquakes
Earthquakes occur when there is sudden movement in the tectonic plates underneath the earth’s crust. Earthquakes can occur at any time and can cause significant damage. They can be harmful to any artificial or natural heritage. Earthquakes are not always as deadly as they seem to be. In some cases, earthquakes are so small and mild that people do not even get to know that these have occurred.
The biggest earthquake occurred in Chile in 1960 with a magnitude of 9.5, and the smallest earthquake had a magnitude of about 1.0.
The earthquakes cause land shaking, tsunamis, fire, etc. People panic a lot during earthquakes, which can lead to severe injuries and sometimes even fatalities. In order to save ourselves from the effects of earthquakes, we need to make earthquake-resilient structures, move to open spaces when possible, not panicking and running, etc. After an earthquake, people help each other. Earthquakes remind us of the power of nature.
