Indra Jatra is the exciting festival of the Newari community of the Kathmandu Valley. It is celebrated for eight days. The people pull the chariot of God Ganesh, Bhairav and Kumari. The people wear masks of god and goddess and they hold swords, shields, damaru etc on their hands. Lakhe dance, Pulankisi dance, Devi nach etc are performed in Indra Jatra. On the first day of Indra Jatra, a lingo is with a red flag placed in Basantapur that signals Lord Indra that Indra Jatra has begun. All the people celebrate Indra Jatra with great joy and happiness.
