Hiking to Fung Fung Waterfall

On Jestha 09, 2083 (Saturday), the students from Deerwalk Sifal School of Grade 10, Class of 2029, along with three teachers, went on a hiking trip to Fungfung Waterfall in Nuwakot. The hike was organized to help students enjoy nature, spend quality time together, and gain new experiences outside the classroom.

All students were instructed to arrive at school by 7:30 a.m. We were informed that the school buses would leave exactly at 7:45 a.m., but the buses finally departed at around 7:55 a.m. Two buses carrying 63 students and 3 teachers headed towards Chhaure, the starting point of our hike. The bus journey was one of the most enjoyable parts of the day. Everyone was excited and full of energy. Students spent the journey singing songs, dancing, talking with friends, and enjoying the ride. Although some parts of the road were muddy and rough, the excitement of the trip made us forget about the discomfort. After nearly one and half hours of travel, we reached Chhaure at around 9:30 a.m.

The weather was cloudy and pleasant, which made the hike even more fascinating. After gathering together, we started our hike downhill through the green hills of Nuwakot. The scenery looked completely different from Kathmandu. It almost felt like we had travelled to another world. Everywhere we looked, there was greenery, fresh air, and beautiful landscapes. Many students stopped to take photographs and admire the natural beauty around us.

Along the trail, we saw several small waterfalls flowing down the hills. We also observed many kinds of wild plants and trees. As we continued walking, our group gradually became scattered because some students walked faster than others. We had to stop at different places and wait for our friends so that we could continue the journey together. During these breaks, we rested for a while and enjoyed the peaceful environment.After some time, we reached Fungfung Village. This was one of the most interesting parts of the hike because we got a chance to observe village life closely. We saw traditional mud houses, green fields, and local villagers working in their farms. Some villagers were carrying large bundles of grass in doko, showing us how hardworking people in the village are. It was a different lifestyle from what most of us are used to seeing in the city.

At around 10:30 a.m., we finally saw the signboard pointing towards Fungfung Waterfall. Near the signboard was a small restaurant where we stopped for a short break. Students filled their water bottles, bought cold drinks, and rested for a few minutes before continuing. From there, we had to go down a long staircase to reach the waterfall. While going down the stairs was easy, many of us were already thinking about how difficult it would be to climb back up later. After around ten minutes of descending, we finally reached Fungfung Waterfall at approximately 10:45 a.m. The waterfall looked beautiful as it flowed down the rocky cliffs surrounded by greenery. There were already some visitors swimming and enjoying the cool water. We also noticed two young village boys happily playing in the water, which was quite entertaining to watch. Students spent time taking photographs, exploring the area, and enjoying the refreshing atmosphere of the waterfall.

At around 11:00 a.m., we had our lunch while enjoying the wonderful view of the waterfall. After eating, all the students and teachers gathered together for a group photograph. The group photo became one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip as it captured everyone together as the Class of 2029.

Soon after, we started our return journey. The part that many of us had been worried about finally arrived; the climb back up the stairs. Going down had taken only about ten minutes, but climbing back up felt much harder. Many students were exhausted and their legs were shaking from the effort. It took us much longer to reach the top than it had taken us to go down. After reaching the restaurant again, we rested and cooled ourselves with cold drinks. Some students were feeling tired because of the strong heat and long walk. We stayed there for nearly an hour before preparing to continue towards our buses.

For the return route, our teachers spoke with the restaurant owner and followed the local suggestion of taking a shorter path through the village. Although some sections of the trail felt a little scary, the route was much more beautiful than the one we had used earlier. On one side flowed a clean and beautiful river, while on the other side were village houses, green fields, and farms. The scenery was truly amazing and many students said this became their favourite part of the hike.

By this time, the sun had become quite strong. To protect ourselves from the heat, many of us opened our umbrellas while walking. After around forty minutes on the village trail, we rejoined the road near the point where our hike had started. We rested there for some time and then continued walking. Along the way, we stopped at a small shop where students bought snacks and energy-boosting foods, refilled their bottles, and took a short break before moving ahead.

Finally, at around 2:00 p.m., we reached our buses and began our journey back to school. Even after the long hike, many students were still energetic. Singing, dancing, and laughter once again filled the buses as we shared our experiences from the day. At approximately 3:20 p.m., we arrived back at school safely, bringing our memorable hiking trip to an end.

Overall, the hike to Fungfung Waterfall was a wonderful and memorable experience for all of us. It allowed us to enjoy the beauty of nature, observe village life, strengthen our friendship, and create unforgettable memories with our classmates and teachers. Although the hike was physically challenging at times, especially the climb back from the waterfall, the beautiful scenery and enjoyable moments made it completely worthwhile. This hiking trip will always remain one of the most memorable experiences of our school life as the Class of 2029.
