Pokhara
Pokhara, often called the city of lakes, is famous for its breathtaking Himalayas and beautiful lakes such as Phewa Lake, Begnas Lake, and Rupa Lake. It is located in the Gandaki Province, within the Kaski District, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. According to Google, Pokhara is the second most visited place by tourists, after Kathmandu.
Most tourists in Pokhara choose to stay in hotels near Phewa Lake to enjoy its stunning views. For those who want to experience authentic Nepali village life, homestays are available, where tourists stay with Nepali families, enjoy home-cooked meals, and observe traditional village culture. In the city area, there are numerous restaurants, shops selling both modern and traditional Nepali items, and lively streets that stay busy until midnight.
In western Pokhara, visitors can explore the World Peace Stupa and Pumdikot, where a huge statue of Lord Shiva is located. From the top of Pumdikot, one can see Phewa Lake with its many boats as well as the entire Pokhara city. Overlooking the city to the north is Sarangkot, a famous hill that can be reached either by a 30-minute car ride or a 10-minute cable car ride. From Sarangkot, the Annapurna mountain range and the iconic Machhapuchhre Mountain look magnificent. Sarangkot is especially popular for early morning sunrise views and paragliding.
For religious tourists, the Barahi Temple, located in the middle of Phewa Lake, is a must-visit. Many tourists enjoy a boat ride from the lakeside to the temple. Nature lovers can also take a one- to three-hour ride around Phewa Lake to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.
With so much to offer, Pokhara is ideal for family vacations, solo trips, and nature getaways. Next time you’re looking for the perfect escape closer to nature, be sure to visit Pokhara.
