Me and My Island

I was a teenage boy with silly ideas with me. Our family had a small business in the small town of Canterwood. It was a bustling city filled with a lot of people and their noise. Enough to make anyone go crazy. I loathed the city. I thought that the city was not made for me. I always wanted to go somewhere else on an adventure. I was actually a boy who wanted fun in his life away from the busy world. I was tired of helping my family in the business and living in that crowded city.

In the summer vacation of my school, I planned to go sailing on the seas. I decided to go on without telling anyone. On the morning of May 12, 1878 at 3:00 AM, I started my journey. I left a note on my desk and took a final look at my home. I went to the shore and onto the dock on my cycle. The ship captain was already there. When I told him that I also wanted to go sailing with him. But he rejected me to go on his ship. After I pleaded with him for about 20 minutes, he finally allowed me to go with him. The sun just rose when we started our journey. The starting of the journey was perfect (except at my house), birds chirping all the way and the sun shining brightly on our ship. The sea is all calm helping us with our journey. The time passed by.

During the evening, the real danger started. It started to rain and a fierce storm took place in the sea making our boat sink. The captain, his dog, and I climbed another boat hanging on to the sinking ship. We jumped out of the ship with the boat and saw the bright white ship sinking behind. The storm started to swing our boat with the waves. Me and the captain rowed it wildly. We were covered in sweat while the dog barked without sense, this was what I could never have expected of me in this type of situation. Suddenly, a large wave appeared behind our boat. It threw us and our boat away. I saw the captain being drowned as he screamed. I yelled enough to make a person go deaf. I fought the storm, waving my hands in the water roughly. Suddenly, I realized that I grew weaker and weaker each second. I tried to open my eyes but because of the weakness, my eyes closed. I thought I was going to die.

I opened my eyes at the barking of the stupid dog. I was not dead. Instead, I was on an island. But wait, where was the captain? I thought that he might have died. Now, me with this stupid dog on an island far away from my homeland, this is what I always wanted. The first thing that struck my brain was “Having Fun!!”. I threw away my clothes and jumped into the sea. I swam and swam and took the brightness of the sun over me. After a while, I changed after having a good swim. I found a coconut tree near where I had lain in the first place. I harvested a coconut from the tree and broke the head of it with a rock under the tree. Then I roamed around the island drinking coconut water, if I could find someone here (in case). I found a herd of cows and some goats. Who knows how they managed to come to this island. After searching for a few hours, I found that this island was uninhabited. Luckily, I found a cave and a clean river flowing beside it. I thought it could be my shelter. I kept the dog aside and went back to the shore keeping the trace of the track to the cave again. I went down to the sea to catch some fish for dinner. The dog who was walking with me jumped into the ocean and came back to the shore with a mouthful of fishes. At least this dog was useful for some of the work. The moon took over the sky. The stars came out twinkling.

I collected some firewood from the forest behind the cave. Then, I started to rub two rocks together to create fire. But the fire would not lighten. I tried and tried and tried, still the same result. With an angry blow, I rubbed it the final time. This time it lightened. The glow of the woods’ fire covered the whole dark place. Then I hung a fish on a long thin wood and started to burn it. I gave the first cooked fish to the dog. It grabbed the fish as he had not eaten anything for ages. Then, I cooked two more fish to feed myself. We ate gracefully. The dog and I went back to the cave and prepared to sleep. I used a big green leaf as a blanket and the dog slept on a stone near me. We soon fell asleep.

The next day, we were woken up by the ray of sunlight over our cave. I decided to get some milk from the cows. But the problem was where should I collect it. Anyway, I collected some more coconuts and drank its water. I also gave a whole coconut filled with water to the dog. After we drank the water, I saw the empty coconut and it gave me an idea. I collected the milk from the cows in the coconut and then took off my shirt and wrapped its head with it, so the milk won’t spill.

Then, I decided to explore the island completely. Yesterday, I just checked everything like I was just roaming. Today, I am going to check every detail. First, I tried to check the forest. There I found a mango tree and some more goats. Then after, I found a flock of pigeons. I decided to make my food schedule because there were so many things to eat. Then, I remembered that I had a pocket knife with me. I searched my pants-pockets. Ah, I found it. I thought that it was good for me to bring this knife with me. I kept it back in my pants. After I moved ahead in the direction, I found some more mango trees. The sun was now above my head. The heat was killing me. I picked some ripe mangoes for lunch. I ate two mangoes and gave one to the dog. Then, I started to explore the back of the island. There was a lake type-resource. After a few hours, night fell. I ate some more fish and some more mangoes. I gave the dog a mango and a fish.

I started counting days. Sometimes, there was heavy rainfall while sometimes it would be sunny. I started feeling bored. I have now spent three years here on this island.

One day, I saw a big ship coming towards my island. I burnt wood and the smoke produced from there. I was trying to give them signals actually. The boat stopped in front of me. I saw some familiar faces. Wait, what. It was the captain, my father and my mother. I could not stop my happiness. A large smile covered my face. I ran to them and hugged them quickly. The dog ran towards his owner. My mother told me that the captain reached Canterwood after the storm and told us all about the journey. He told my family that I was not dead. He told them that I was on an island in the east. Then after that they started searching for me. After a lot of storms and years, they found me. I showed them the whole island. I gave them some mangoes and coconut water to eat as they were very tired. They rested the same day in the cave. Next morning, we headed towards Canterwood.

I decided to go back to Canterwood and help in the family business. On the way there, I told them how I spent three years on this island.
