The Girl Who Stole an Elephant
Author: Nizrana Farook
Introduction: This book is about a girl who steals an elephant and escapes from her village with her friends. She leads them on an adventure into a jungle full of surprises.
Characters: Chaya, Neel, Nour, Princess Lela, Chaya’s father, and the king.
Settings: Chaya’s village, the palace, and the jungle.
Plot: There was a girl named Chaya. She stole the queen's jewels and got caught, but she managed to escape. Chaya went home, changed her clothes, and went to meet her friend Neel. She told him about the jewels, and Neel was shocked. He asked her why she had done it. Chaya explained that a boy named Vijaya had been attacked by a crocodile while swimming, and his family needed money for his treatment. She stole the jewels to help them and keep the rest for emergencies.
Neel was worried that if the king’s men found out, Chaya would face a terrible punishment. But Chaya told him nothing like that would happen and asked if the box with the hidden compartment was still with him. Neel agreed and gave it to her. Chaya placed the jewels inside, keeping just one to give to Vijaya’s mother. She went home, but soon learned that the king’s men would come to search for the jewels. Chaya visited Neel again, and they found out that a girl named Nour wanted to buy the box with the jewels. They needed to stop her, so Chaya decided to steal the box back from Nour’s house. But when Chaya opened the box, the jewels were gone.
Chaya went to Neel to tell him what had happened. Then Nour arrived and returned the jewels, asking for the box back. Just then, the king’s men arrived and found the jewels. They took Neel away, even though Chaya tried to tell them it was all her fault. Neel was sentenced to be hanged in 20 hours, so Chaya had to act quickly.
Chaya made a plan to help Neel escape, and she freed all the prisoners, too. Then, Chaya stole the king’s elephant. Neel and Nour were shocked, but they had to escape before the king’s men could catch them. They rode the elephant south. But one day, they were caught, and Neel was separated from Chaya and Nour. Chaya forced Nour to jump into the water, not realising that Nour didn’t know how to swim. While rescuing Nour, Chaya fainted. When she woke up, she discovered that the elephant had saved them.
Chaya woke Nour, and together they went to search for Neel. They found him with a group of bandits. The bandits didn’t support the king—they were part of his half-brother’s group. The children made a plan and asked if they could meet the bandit leader. The bandits agreed, and they went to meet him. First, they ate, bathed, and then met the prince—or rather, the princess. She told them that her brother, the king, had died a long time ago, and she was planning her revenge. The children told her their plan, and she agreed to help.
That night, they headed for Serendib, but things didn’t go as planned. The houses caught fire, and Chaya rang the bell to call for help. The king’s men arrived to rescue everyone, but they captured the children and the princess. The children were about to be executed, but Chaya explained why she had stolen the jewels. After hearing her story, everyone supported Princess Lela, and she became the new ruler of Serendib. The children were honored as heroes of Serendib, and they all lived happily ever after.
Recommendation and Critical Analysis: I recommend this book to everyone because it is very interesting and adventurous. It shows how bravery, friendship, and helping others can make a big difference. The book also teaches us the importance of standing up for what is right. The story is full of twists and turns, making it an exciting read from start to finish.
