Name: The Secret Garden Author: Frances Hodgson Burnett

Introduction: The Secret Garden is about a young girl named Mary Lennox, who starts off as a spoiled and bad-tempered child. Her life changes when she moves to her uncle's house. She finds a garden that has been locked for 10 years. With the help of her friends, she brings the garden back to life and makes everyone in the house happy again.

Characters: Mary, Dickon, Colin, Ben Weatherstaff, Martha, Mr. Craven

Settings: Misselthwaite Manor, Garden

Plot: Mary Lennox lived in India with her parents, who didn’t care much about her. After her parents die, she moves to her uncle's big, gloomy house. The house has many rooms, and Mary is told not to wander around. She meets a servant named Martha, who encourages her to play outside in the garden.

While exploring, Mary hears about a secret garden that has been locked for years. One day, a robin shows her where the key to the garden is. She unlocks it and begins to clean it up with the help of Dickon, Martha's brother, who is good with animals and plants.

Mary also discovers her cousin Colin, who is sick and believes he won’t live long. Colin is bad-tempered too, but with Mary and Dickon’s help, he starts to feel better. They bring Colin to the garden, and as he spends time there, he begins to grow stronger and healthier.

By the end, Colin can walk, and when his father, Mr. Craven, returns from his trip, he is amazed to see his son healthy and the garden full of life again.

Recommendation and Critical Analysis: I recommend The Secret Garden because it’s a very interesting book. It teaches us about friendship, taking care of nature, and how people can change for the better.
