Marked as AI
As an individual fond of writing, it never occurred to me an event as dreadful as having my work flagged as AI-written. Being someone who learnt the Oxford comma, uses semicolons to conjoin sentences, and figures out different methods of writing sentences through reading books, I feel as if my effort has been diminished. Examples of works that have been marked as AI-generated are the Constitution of the United States, two-thousand-year-old Roman scrolls, the majority of Shakespeare’s writings, and so forth.
An artificial intelligence that is used to detect whether or not there is a contradiction or fallacy to make it determinant of writing is AI-generated merely checks the words used, patterns, and sentence structures. If the AI has been trained on data and information from widely used books, is it not a contradiction or fallacy to determine whether the content is authentically written?
The same artificial intelligence that copies human writings and judges them has an error in distinguishing between original and non - original content. This very distinction has caused me an awful lot of trouble trying to explain or prove to my teachers that it was really I who wrote whatever I may have sent.
As a keen writer, I consider it absolutely impudent that I, as a real human capable of original thought and expression through language, have to take precautions to ensure that my work does not become flagged as AI- generated. How has the writing community reached a point where writers must fear a mere pattern-detecting machine that checks the authenticity of their work? The idea in itself seems absurd to me.
In my opinion, AI should have remained a supportive tool and not evolved beyond that. Generative AI has not only threatened the sovereignty and dignity of many writers, artists, poets, etc., but also brought a hassle for students and teachers as well. Standards have either been raised or lowered, hindering those with genuine interest while benefiting the lazy. or lowered; those with real interest have been hindered, and the lazy have been advantaged. In conclusion, I felt compelled to address the issue because of the relentless and baseless criticisms from AI.
