Opinion : Marriage is primarily a social and economic arrangement

In basic terms, marriage is the legal act of union between two people that establishes a formal relation, rights, and obligations of one with the other. Marriage, by definition and implementation, is traditionally a social and economic arrangement in which family relations, monetary acts, inheritance, sharing of assets and such are involved.

Marriage, now considered from what is described as a ‘traditional’ viewpoint, which the past few generations have lived with, has simply been a social contract or an economic relationship. Families, whether of good or bad backgrounds, have used marriage to extend their relations. Kingdoms have used marriage for treaties. People have done marriage for inheritance, social backing, financial help, and so forth.

Marriage has been practised in many cultures, not just among commoners or royal families. Marriage has been derived in many other cultures, not just among commoners or royal families. Within the last few centuries, seen mostly advancing during the 17th century, especially in foreign countries, marriage has come to the fundamentals of love and romance.

In my opinion, just as marriage has come to evolve, it should revolve around the idea of feelings, commitment, affection, and the relation of 2 people. Following the concept of love, marriage should not be belittled to simply a social act. The formal bond, relationship, and commitment established by law clearly demonstrate the connection between two people. The difference lies between a casual statement and the relationship of a couple, as well as the formal declaration of their union. Standing at the foundation of a social and economic arrangement, marriage should primarily reflect the feelings and commitments of the individuals involved.

Conclusively, marriage is a formal establishment of a union between people that binds their relations, rights, obligations, assets, etc. In my opinion, marriage should be based on social and economic arrangements, but the primary importance lies in the relationship, bond, feelings, and commitment of the two partners.
