In the 18th century, Nepal was not one country as it is today. It was divided into many small kingdoms. There were the Baise and Chaubise kingdoms in the west and the Malla kingdoms in the Kathmandu Valley. These small kingdoms often fought with each other.

A brave and wise king named Prithvi Narayan Shah was born in a small kingdom called Gorkha. He became king at the age of 20 in 1743. Even though he was young, he had a big dream. He wanted to unite all the small kingdoms and make a strong nation called Nepal.

He trained his soldiers well and made careful plans. His first goal was to capture Nuwakot. He failed at first, but he did not give up. He learned from his mistakes and tried again. Slowly, he succeeded and later took control of the three main cities—Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur.

These cities were rich and powerful, but Prithvi Narayan Shah was very clever. He stopped their trade with Tibet and India so they could not get help or supplies. In 1769, at the right time, he won the Kathmandu Valley. He also expanded Nepal to the east and west.

Prithvi Narayan Shah did not want to be king just for power. He truly loved his country and wanted to protect it from the British rulers in India. Because of his courage, intelligence, and strong leadership, Nepal became one united country.

He passed away, but his dream lives on. His son and generals continued his work. Today, we live in a united Nepal because of him. Let us always remember Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal, and stay united.
