Natural Resources
Natural resources are the materials and components found in the environment that exist without human intervention, essential for survival, economic activity and development. There are two types of natural resources: renewable and non-renewable resources. Renewable resources are the ones that can never end or get restored quickly after end. But the non-renewable resources are the resources that cannot or take too long to get restored. Examples of renewable resources are sunlight, water, wind and the examples of non-renewable resources are fossil fuels, minerals and bio-gas.
Examples and uses:
Water : This is one of the most essential natural resources because, technically, our entire body is made up of water. Dehydration can lead to headaches and if not treated quick enough, it can cause deaths.
Soil: This is the most essential natural resource for agriculture. Fertile soil allows plants to become healthier. It also helps in food production.
Air : This is the most essential natural resource for living organisms. Air allows breathing and without it survival is unthinkable.
Natural resources found in Nepal:
Nepal is one of the most environment-friendly countries in the world. There are many forests and water resources.
Forests and conservational areas: Forests cover about 44.8% of the country's land area, providing essential products like fuel wood, timber, and herbs. They are crucial for biodiversity, supporting over 6,500 flowering plants and hundreds of species of mammals, birds, and butterflies.
Flora and fauna : Flora is the overall population of all plant life and fauna is the overall population of animal life. It is considered the foundation of ecosystems around the country.
Water resources : Nepal has immense water resources, including numerous rivers (Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali), lakes, and glaciers. It has a potential of around 83,000 MW of hydroelectric power, although only a small percentage is currently utilized.
