Bhupi Sherchan was a very famous poet and a song-writer. He was the composer of many famous poems and songs of Nepal.
Childhood:
Bhupi Sherchan was born in Vikram Sambat 1992, Poush 12 in the Mustang District of the Gandaki Province. His alias was Bhupi but his name amongst his family and friends was Bhupendraman Sherchan. His parents were Hitmaan Sherchan and Padmakumari Sherchan and he was the youngest of five children. Unfortunately, his mother passed away when he was just five and he lived with his father and brothers ever since. His mother’s death left Bhupi helpless and miserable. Bhupi’s father didn’t have the money to be able to admit him to a school so he decided to keep Bhupi in the house and teach him the nepali letters and words. Then, he was sent to Paraasi with his older brother. He was a very bright student and completed his primary level in Paraasi itself. After some time, Bhupi was taken to Nautanwa, a city in India. There, he learned Hindi and English. He was admitted to the Central Hindu College located in the sacred city of Varanasi. He passed the matriculation exam in Varanasi and was admitted to the D.A.V College where he started I.S.E education. After reading science for one year, he started losing interest and started reading about arts. He then went to Kathmandu and started preparing for graduation. He could not continue his education because of some problems.
Awards and compositions of Bhupi Sherchan:
Bhupi was not only a poet but also the composer of many songs of Nepal. His compositions include Parivartan (Act, 2015), Nayaa Jhyaure (Collection of poems, 2011), Nirjhar (Collection of poems, 2015), Ghumne Mech Maathi Andho Maanche (Collection of poems, 2025) and Bhupi Sherchan Kaa Kavitaharu (Collection of poems, 2057). More different poems have been published in magazines and newspapers. He has composed many patriotic, nature-loving, and humanity-loving poems. The famous patriotic song ‘Yo Nepali Shir Uchali, Sansara Maa Lamkincha’ was composed by Bhupi Sherchan himself. He was awarded with the Saajha Puraskar in 2026.
Death:
When a person is born on the Earth, his death is defined. Bhupi Sherchan passed away in Vikram Sambat 2046, Jestha 1 at the age of 54. It was a very big loss for the industry of arts of Nepal. Even if he is not physically present, his poems and songs will be immortal amongst us
