Fear

Fear, Such a strange feeling it is. If you ask me what my fear is, It is fear itself that isn’t clear. What is fear? Why is fear? Do we fear when death draws near? Or, When do we have someone dear? Kids fear clowns as well as the dark, They fear being left alone in the park. Teenagers fear losing their spark, Wondering if they’ll be able to leave a mark. Adults fear the dreams they’ve left untouched, And old souls fear they’ve lost too much. We spend our lives trying to outrun fear, Yet it's always waiting, always so near. Some fear happiness, many fear pain, Some fear that life has slowly drained. Maybe fear is the price of care, The invisible evidence that it was there. For isn’t life a momentary flame, Gone before we can even properly name? Why spend every moment blind, Battling perspectives of the mind. Perhaps fear was never the foe, But a friend with nowhere else to go. For those who’ve never feared at all Have not known life’s truest call.
