The Role of Youth in Strengthening Democracy
Democracy is a system of government in which people have the power to choose their leaders and express their opinions freely. Citizens are provided with equal rights and opportunities to show participation in the decision making process of the government. In all the democratic countries, youths play an important role. The term ‘Youth’ is given to those people who are young and full of new ideas, creativity and energy. Youths are the future leaders or the future of the nation. Democracy can be successful only from the involvement of youths. Without youth participation, stronger democracy is almost impossible.
Young people are also known as the backbone of the nation. They have the ability to change society. Citizens must be aware of their rights and responsibilities in democracy. Youths are the ones to spread awareness about election, justice, equality and freedom. Nowadays youths show active participation in spreading awareness through social media. It is one of the easiest and most effective platforms to do so. Youths should also show the importance od democratic values through different community programmes. When the youths become responsible citizens, they are the ones encouraging others to do the same which is one main reason for a strong democratic society to get developed. Voting can also be considered as the foundation of democracy. All the citizens have equal rights to cast their vote and choose the leader who they believe would be the best working for the nation. Young voters can bring a huge difference because they hold the biggest number of voters in all countries. When there is participation of youths in elections, there is a high chance for honest and capable leaders to be chosen. They also play an important role in rejecting corruption and bad governance by casting their vote wisely. Active youth participation in elections strengthens democracy and ensures that the government represents the will of the people. Youths also play a major role in raising their voices against injustice and corruption. In many countries, youths are the ones who led movements for freedom, equality and human rights. Through peaceful protests, campaigns, and discussions, youths can influence the government decisions and help bring positive changes. Their courage and determination inspires society to fight for truth and justice. This way, the democratic values and human rights get protected. Education is also one of the important factors to strengthen democracy. Educated youths know much about laws, truth and justice. They think critically and make wise decisions for the nation. Educated youths are less likely to be misled by false information in social media.They can also guide the society towards the right direction. Youths consider technology and social media the new ways to support democracy. Today digital platforms are being used to share information, spread awareness and discuss political issues. It allows youths from different backgrounds to connect and work together to achieve a common goal. However, they must be really careful while using technology and must be sure that fake news and false information is not being spread through it. Positive use of technology can strengthen democracy and encourage freedom of expression. Youths come up with fresh and innovative ideas that help a lot in the development of the nation. Their ideas can solve the economic and social problems in an instant. They create or work on projects that improve the quality of life. Democracy grows stronger with the equal participation of all citizens. Their ideas also help the government to find better solutions to the problems faced by the society. Unity and tolerance in democratic society is also promoted because of youth participation. Democracy is the system that respects diversity and gives equal rights to all citizens regardless of religion, caste, gender, or language. Young people are more open minded and accepting of different cultures or opinions. They help reduce discrimination and encourage harmony among communities. By promoting peace, cooperation, and mutual respect, youth strengthen democracy and national unity. Leadership is another area where youths can strengthen democracy. Students develop leadership qualities from different school activities which help them to become great leaders in the future. They learn how to manage responsibilities and work for the welfare of others. Governments and political parties must encourage and give places to young leaders because they understand the needs and hopes of young people and work according to it. Democracy becomes even more powerful and representative from the active participation of youths.
In conclusion, youths are the future of democracy. Their energy, creativity, and active participation are necessary for the progress of any democratic nation. Youths strengthen democracy through different ways. A county empowering youths becomes more peaceful, developed and democratic. Therefore, young people should take their responsibilities seriously and work together to build a better society and a stronger democracy for future generations.
