A Day in the Life of a Butterfly

I am a purple monarch butterfly. My day starts by stretching my wings and warming them in the sun because I cannot fly when my body temperature is low.

I love to fly all over beautiful gardens and forests. My favorite food is nectar from colorful flowers. I have a straw-like proboscis to drink nectar. My feet can help me locate and taste flowers.

In the afternoon, I rest on a leaf and enjoy the sunshine. Sometimes birds try to harm me, so I need to fly carefully. Spiders, frogs, and lizards are my enemies. I use my colors and patterns to camouflage myself and stay safe.

In the evening, when it becomes colder, I find a safe shelter under a leaf to rest.
