Nepal Sambat is a calendar based on the moon. It is mostly followed by the Newar community. It was started 1,145 years ago to remember the kind act done by Sankhadhar Sakhwa. The first day of Nepal Sambat is celebrated on the fourth day of Tihar. The main part of the celebration is Mha Puja, which means worship of the self. People make colorful mandalas and have a healthy feast with their family. During this time, people dress up in traditional clothes and take part in parades with colorful banners and traditional music. They wish each other by saying Nhu Daya Bhintuna.
