Setting

Kirrin Cottage is near the coastal village of Kirrin, and it's where the Famous Five—Julian, Dick, Anne, George (Georgina), and Timmy the dog—often stay. From the cottage, you can see a small, rocky island with a ruined castle and secret tunnels. This island is important to the treasure hunt. It’s an exciting and mysterious place with hidden passages.

The area around Kirrin is rugged, with cliffs and coves. The sea plays a big part in the story, giving the children challenges but also helping them in their adventure.

The village nearby is small and has a local store. The children sometimes visit it to gather supplies and talk to the villagers.

The main focus of the story is the search for hidden treasure. The children explore the island and its castle, finding clues and facing obstacles as they try to solve the mystery.

Plot

The story starts with the Famous Five—Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and Timmy—spending their holiday at George's house, Kirrin Cottage. They are excited for their summer vacation. George’s father, Mr. Kirrin, is working on a project to restore a local island, and the children are curious about it and its history.

One day, while exploring, the children find an old map in the attic of Kirrin Cottage. The map shows buried treasure on a small island near Kirrin. Excited, the Five plan to search for the treasure.

They set out to explore the island, which is rough and mysterious, and find a hidden cave. As they explore, they discover clues that the treasure might be hidden there. But they also notice some suspicious men who seem interested in the island too.

The children start to suspect these men. Despite the possible danger, they stay focused on finding the treasure.

As they work out more clues from the map, they realise the treasure is hidden in the cave. However, the men following them turn out to be treasure hunters who want the treasure for themselves.

The Famous Five get into trouble when the men try to steal the treasure, but by using clever ideas and working together, the children outsmart them.

The adventure reaches its peak when the Famous Five confront the treasure hunters. With Timmy’s help, they stop the bad guys and protect the treasure. The treasure is then handed over to the proper authorities.

In the end, the Five are praised for their bravery. They have an unforgettable holiday, having solved the mystery and stopped the criminals.

Throughout the story, the Famous Five show courage, intelligence, and teamwork, making the adventure fun and exciting for young readers.
