A Letter to Heaven

Have I over-stayed this welcome, my dear?

For my eyes lie shadows deep;

Reliving this moment does make me weep,

This fate has spurned me, for I am out of tears.

My life again is at the bare woods’ edge,

You left me, lass, with a mere sketch

Of you—your life the mirror sought to fetch,

My love was a promise, a pledge.

How is it dealing heaven’s dear affairs?

I wish to join you, but I simply cannot dare.
