The Little Park
Sometimes, the best things are the ones you almost miss.
There's a big, busy mall near my house. It's a place of bright lights, loud music, and a million things to buy. I used to go there all the time walking fast, looking straight ahead while my mind full of noise. One Saturday, I was in a hurry to get to the other side, and I decided to take a shortcut behind the building.
That's when I found it.
Tucked away from the chaos of the parking lot was a tiny, forgotten park. It was nothing fancy. Just a few old benches, a patch of grass, and one big tree in the middle. But in that moment, it felt like walking into a different world.
The air was different. It was quiet. The only sounds were the rustling of leaves in the wind and a bird singing somewhere in the branches. The harsh light of the mall was replaced by the soft, dappled sunlight filtering through the tree. It was a moment of pure peace.
I sat down on one of the worn benches, just to feel the silence. For the first time that day, I wasn't thinking about homework, the next test, or that argument I had with my friend. My mind, which always felt so busy, just stopped.
I found myself watching a orange cat. It was so full of energy, running here and there, stopping every few seconds to sniff at the air. It wasn't worried about anything. It was just living. I felt a smile spread across my face. A feeling of calm washed over me, like a slow, warm wave. It was a feeling of being completely okay, right there and then.
It was a bittersweet moment. I was happy to have found this little sanctuary, but I also felt a little sad. How many times had I walked right past it without even noticing? How many other simple, beautiful things was I missing in my rush to get somewhere?
The park became my spot. Whenever I feel stressed or overwhelmed, I go there. I don't bring my phone. I just sit and listen to the wind. mostly I just watch the clouds. It's my way of pressing the reset button.
That little patch of grass and a big tree taught me something important. You don't need to travel far or spend money to find peace. Sometimes, it's hidden in plain sight, right behind the noise. You just have to slow down, look around, and be willing to find it.
