Bhaktapur Durbar Square

It was Sunday, 6th April 2025. My sister, my parents, and I decided to visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square. According to my father, it is one of the most important historical sites in our country and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting many local and international tourists.

We were very excited because none of us had visited the place before. We chose to travel by public bus so that we could experience what it feels like compared to using our personal car. The bus was extremely crowded, and it was quite difficult to get a seat while traveling from Lokanthali to Sallaghari. Despite the congestion, we finally arrived and took our first steps through the gate of Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

Inside, there were many shops displaying Nepali culture, selling souvenirs that tourists often buy as memories of Nepal. The weather was sunny, and we craved ice cream. We explored numerous temples and palaces, and when we felt tired, we sat down to enjoy our ice cream while admiring the beautiful surroundings. Many tourists were visiting the area, and we took several photos. During this time, we noticed a tourist sketching a stunning picture of the Durbar Square. The stone carvings, drawings, and temples were truly captivating.

We also observed the famous 55-Window Palace, which is one of the main attractions of the square. Additionally, we visited a five-storey temple, which amazed me so much that I called my sister to admire it with me.

After exploring the site, we became very hungry and decided to eat at a nearby restaurant. We enjoyed some momo and sausages. Nearby, local people were celebrating a festival, playing drums and madal, which added a lively atmosphere to our visit.

As evening approached, we began our journey home. On the way, we tried locally made banana chips, which were delicious. My sister and I also had kulfi, and its rich taste is something I still remember clearly.

Later, we visited a pond called Siddhi Pokhari, located along the main road. The pond has a rectangular shape and a walking trail around it. My sister and I completed a full lap around the pond. After that, we visited Rani Pokhari, where we fed the fish and had a lot of fun.

By then, my legs were aching from all the walking. Finally, we took a bus and reached home late in the evening, tired but filled with wonderful memories of the day.
