Art is a tool, a vessel from which imagination is delivered to the viewers. Art is a subject that has been around for centuries and never has its importance been questioned. In the past, it seemed as if it was just an attraction for the eye, something the rich could flaunt and the poor could admire. But now it is a medium for the creator, the artist to portray their feelings, but when most of us think of art we think of the same old thing, a canvas with splashes of paint or a sketch. Art never has had any definite meaning, it always comes off as rather vague. Google says that it is something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings. Art, at its core, is a medium through which artists convey their thoughts, emotions, and perspectives. It is a means of communication that transcends language barriers and allows for a more global understanding. If you ever see a piece of art that resonates with you you will often try to grasp its idea , put more thought into it or try to find a new meaning to it, something that satisfies you. Artists use that same crave for meaning to make money. If a person is curious and resonates with the art piece. They will not give a single thought of consideration before spending their money.
Art is celebrated throughout the world and people really seem to enjoy it. Even from a million years ago now , cavemen drew these little stick figures to measure their day. Greece, Egypt, Rome 2 everywhere art was admired and is of great historical evidence now. Art can be beautiful, thoughtful, confusing, morbid, meaningless, deformed in any way and it will still be considered art. There are no specific standards for art . If you take a look at the historical piece of art from the renaissance there are a few details that you can observe .It's elegant, highly detailed and has a strange aura around it. The Mona Lisa made by the artist Leonardo Davinci is a good example of how appeal is a big part of a successful art form. It's beautiful but, what makes Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" a masterpiece that continues to captivate audiences for centuries? It gained interest mainly because of the demand for good painting at that time combined with the painting's inherent appeal. The artist had talent but the features of the painting and the talent had nothing to do with its fame . Leonardo’s other painting’s are as equally good as Mona Lisa, they simply had to choose what could be the spirit, the representation of the renaissance.
Like I said, art cannot be defined. If we were given two options, a painting and theater, to decide which is art, then obviously we will pick the painting. We have been told art is just supposed to be represented on a piece of paper more often. Pottery is a less known medium of art, but it is still one of the most significant forms of skill because in the previous era, almost everything was made out of earth and the skill was very widespread. It is only one of the traditional art forms of Nepal. The people who know and teach pottery are respected in their community. There are no actual limits to art , art is a way of expressing ourselves and since they never gave us specification, there are no limits. Famous painter Salvador Dali actually wanted to prove that art has no limits so he taped an lobster to a tape and called it the ‘Aphrodisiac Telephone’ and of course people were quick to call it a masterpiece, without even questioning it as it came from a famous artist. Its true meaning represented the combination of two objects, his desires beyond social boundaries.
Art is fun. It's engaging and it can be a great way of storytelling and communication. Art is important for numerous reasons, as it holds a significant place in human culture and society. Art prompts us to reflect on the world around us, challenging our perceptions and encouraging critical thinking. It often invites viewers to interpret and engage with the artwork, fostering diverse perspectives. Art has the ability to evoke strong emotions and provoke intellectual stimulation. It can inspire, uplift, provoke thought, or evoke empathy, providing a profound and meaningful experience for both the artist and the audience. And most importantly art is for all everyone can create art and you don't have to be an artist to do so. It takes time but so does every other activity.
There is one other medium of art that I would like to talk about today which is theater. Personally, theater is a form of art that I enjoy the most because I feel like I deeply resonate with the art of expressing via acting. In my free time I watch a lot of soap operas and dramas and I am extremely captivated by the performance of the actors, how much emotion they can pour into their acting and the grace of the lead actors and actresses. I aspire to be as good as them on stage one day. Back to theaters, unlike pre-recorded shows which require a lot of effort and budget, the grace and beauty of theater lies in the live performance. If you screw up, you can’t start over and you must move with the flow. Theater is also a great way to express emotions as acting is basically expressing your emotions in the most direct way possible. I think it’s really brave to be performing in front of an audience while managing your script , the amount of emotion you pour into each line and the effort you show. I believe that theater is the best way to convey your emotions and I hope someday I can learn the art of it.
In conclusion, art is not a luxury but a necessity. It is an essential part of our human experience, shaping our identities, connecting us to our past, and guiding us towards a brighter future. It enables us to express ourselves, share our stories, and engage with the world in a meaningful way. Let us celebrate and cherish art, for it is a testament to the beauty, creativity, and pride of the human spirit.
