Book Review: Like the Flowing River

Like the Flowing River is a collection of short stories, reflections, and personal experiences

written by Paulo Coelho. Unlike most books, it does not have one main story from beginning to

end. Instead, each chapter contains a different lesson about life, human nature, dreams,

courage, relationships, and personal growth. The author uses simple events and experiences to

teach important life lessons. Some chapters are funny, some are emotional, and others make

readers think deeply about their own lives.

One reason I enjoyed this book is that every chapter is different. The stories are short and easy

to read, but they still contain meaningful messages. The author shares his thoughts about

everyday situations and shows how even small experiences can teach valuable lessons. While

reading the book, I felt that Paulo Coelho was encouraging readers to look at life from a different

perspective and appreciate things that are often ignored.

There were several chapters that I especially liked. One of them was "The Intelligent Clerk." I

liked this chapter because it teaches that intelligence is not always related to a person's job,

wealth, or social status. The clerk appears to be an ordinary person, but he proves to be wiser

than many others. The chapter shows that people should not be judged by their appearance or

position in society.

Another chapter I enjoyed was "The Third Passion." This chapter explains the importance of

passion in life. It shows that passion gives people motivation and helps them achieve their

goals. I liked this chapter because it encourages readers to follow their interests and work hard

for their dreams.

I also liked "The Catholic and the Muslim." This chapter teaches an important lesson about

respect and understanding between people of different religions and backgrounds. It shows that

even though people may have different beliefs, they can still live together peacefully and learn

from one another. I think this message is very important in today's world.

Another enjoyable chapter was "Alone on the Road." This chapter explains that everyone has

their own journey in life. Sometimes people must face challenges on their own and make difficult

decisions. I liked this chapter because it teaches courage, independence, and self-confidence. It

reminds readers that challenges can help them grow stronger and wiser.

The author of this book, Paulo Coelho, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 24, 1947.

From a young age, he dreamed of becoming a writer, but his parents wanted him to choose a

different career. Despite many difficulties, he continued to follow his passion for literature.

Before becoming a famous author, he worked as a journalist, songwriter, actor, and theatre

director. His first published book was Hell Archives in 1982. Although it was not very successful,

he did not give up. Later, he wrote The Alchemist, which became one of the most popular books

in the world and made him internationally famous.

Overall, I think Like the Flowing River is an interesting book with many different stories and life

lessons. I liked how each chapter talks about a different topic and gives readers something to

think about. Some chapters were very meaningful and easy to relate to, while others were a little

difficult for me to understand or were too short.

What I liked most about the book was that it made me see everyday situations in a different way.

The author shares his thoughts and experiences, which helped me learn new lessons about life,

courage, and human relationships. However, because the book does not have one main story,

there were times when I lost interest and wanted more details in some chapters.

I would give this book a 3 out of 5. Even though I did not enjoy every chapter equally, I still

learned many valuable lessons from it. I think this book is suitable for readers who enjoy short

stories and reflections about life rather than long novels with one main plot.
