My First Swimming Class Experience
The process of moving our hands and legs through the water is called swimming. Swimming is also a type of sport. People compete against each other to determine who can reach to the other side of the pool the fastest. Many people have won these Olympic games and have won many awards.
On March 8th, 2082, my mother and I went to Baneswor Recreation Center to learn swimming. It cost Rs. 7,500 for 1 person for 14 days. My mom did not want to swim, so my mom paid for only 1 person. So, I went to the dressing room and changed my clothes. After that I took a shower and entered the pool. The water was freezing at first but after a while I got used to the water. My coach told me to show what I know. So, I submerged my head and rapidly moved my feet and hands. I couldn’t finish the breadth with 1 breath because I did not know how to breathe while swimming. The coach told me that I could already float, and I only need some movement practice with my feet and hands. So, the coach told me what to do with my legs and told me not to move my hands yet. So, I followed the order and moved my legs as he told me to.
The next day I practiced the movement of my legs. The coach told me to keep practicing. So, I did that for a few minutes. The coach told me to keep my toes pointed and head down. After practicing for a while, the coach told me I was ready for the movement of the hands. The coach told me I should stretch my hands as much as I can and told me to move it slowly, not rapidly. So, I did what he told me to do. I did that for 1 hour straight and went home.
The next day, I practiced the same movement again and again. Then the coach told me to do the movement of the hands with a board. So, I took a board and practiced with it for the whole class. Before the class was over the coach taught me another technique. The crawling technique. The coach told me to try to crawl. He said to take a handful of water and throw it back and quickly move your feet. I tried to do that but failed.
The next day I remembered the coach told me what to do and did it. Surprisingly I managed to swim like a dog! Then I practiced normal swimming by moving my hands on the board. That day was also nothing new. I practiced the same thing the whole class.
The next day, when I was practicing, my coach told me to do a backstroke. Backstroke is also a swimming, but you swim upside down the surface of the water. I was scared to try it, but my coach told me it would be ok and said to relax your body upside down. So, I tried it but failed. But the second time I managed to do it. My coach then said to move my legs. I did it and I moved while I was upside down! Then I swam upside down for the whole class. It was fun swimming and looking at the blue sky.
The next 5 days I just practiced crawling, moving my hands and backstroke again and again. After 5 days my coach told me to dive in the 6 feet deep water. I was scared and did not want to do it but again my coach told me it would be fine, so I said ok and dived. My swimming glasses were not tight enough and they got loose when I dove, so some water got in my eyes, but I was fine.
A few days passed and I learned how to breathe! Now, I need to complete the whole length of the pool. Then, I went to the other side of the pool and began swimming. At first, I became uncomfortable trying to breathe but when I reached the halfway mark I became used to and comfortable. Then it happened, I finally completed the length of the pool and learned how to swim!
Since it was my last class, I thanked my coach and went home. This was a very fun journey for me. The coach was kind and humble. This was a very fun place to learn swimming for me.
