Burning Vows Drag
Our eyes met, under the barriers of lies not war
My hands red and shaking while yours held a cigar
It was dawn, almost night, yet your eyes shone brighter than anything
But I didn’t see them, too focused on taking out this ring.
Once our political vows, which held peace, were no more
Burning in bright red, like the love in your eyes—almost gone
I know I did wrong, but so did you
The sky seemed darker, as if it had never once been blue.
Standing on opposing sides, voices raised strong
Treaties burning, parliaments falling from all the mistakes we made when we were young
Yet here we are, shaking hands as the world falls apart
As if it wasn’t us against all at the start.
Love was the rule; our trust was the fault
With every step it gave my heart a jolt
We paid the price for all the laws we broke
Untwined our fingers, our faces covered with smoke.
The once fully-lit cigar, now burnt out
With a mouth full of lies, the truth you spout
Foot standing strong, almost leaving a mark
The sun all gone, taking all our spark
