Raya and the Last Dragon is a 2021 animated fantasy movie that takes place set in the land of Kumandra. The story shows the main character Raya, a warrior princess who is on a mission to find Sisu ( THE LAST DRAGON) to save the world from Evils.
In the past Kumandra was attacked by dark and evil spirits known as the Druun, which turned living beings into stone. To save the diversity, the dragons combined each of their magic into a powerful glowing gem and gave the responsibility to take care of it to Sisu, the last dragon. When Sisu released the gem’s magic, the Druun were forced to leave, but the dragons themselves were turned to stone except for Sisu. After that, humans began to fight over the dragon gem, and Kumandra was divided into five separate lands: Heart, Fang, Spine, Talon, and Tail.
The gem remained in Heart under the eyes of Raya’s father, Chief Benja, who believed the lands could one day be united again. In this thought, Benja invites all the representatives from other lands to Heart. During the gathering, Raya introduces her to Namaari, a princess from Fang, and shows her the location of the hidden gem. When they reach the location, Namaari betrays Raya and tries to steal the gem for her own land. Everyone comes and tries to grab the gem, but the gem gets shattered into five pieces. This allows the Druun to return, It turns many people including Chief Benja ( Raya’s father) into stone.
Due to the loss of Chief Benja, Raya sets off on a mission to find Sisu, believing she can again help remake the gem and save Kumandra. Six years later, Raya finds Sisu at the end of a sacred river. To her surprise, Sisu is not a mighty warrior but a cheerful, playful and a funny dragon who believes in the power of trust . Together, they travel to all five lands to collect the missing pieces of the gem.
As they travel, Raya and Sisu are met by a group of mysterious allies from different parts of Kumandra. At the time, when they were searching for missing pieces, they met Namaari who was also in the search of missing pieces of gem. They once again fight for the gem but this time raya does not let Namaari steal the gem and runs away to a boat. The boat was runned by a boy named Boun, a young boat captain from Tail, In the search of missing pieces of the gem gem they meet different people from different parts of land, The people were:
1. Tong – A lonely warrior from Spine.
2. Little Noi – A clever baby from Talon. She tricks people to get money with her three mischievous monkeys.
Raya still isn't sure if she should continue to trust someone, especially Namaari, who always betrays her to take the gem pieces for Fang. But Sisu always encourages Raya to trust Namaari and try to work together, but Raya can’t let go of the past betrayal. After a few days,Sisu is accidentally killed by Namaari, in front of Raya and the people who were helping them to bring the world back together. This causes the world to scatter into chaos as the Druun grows stronger without the dragon's magic.
Emotionally destroyed by Sisu’s death, Raya expresses a strong anger at Namaari, but eventually realizes that revenge will not save Kumandra. She finally understands Sisu saying that only trust can save the world. Raya gives Namaari the piece of the gem and allows herself to be turned to stone by the Druun, inspiring the others to do the same. One by one,Namaari allows themselves to be turned to stone by the Drunn.
Since the characters trusted each other they were able to bring the gem's power back .
This also brings Sisu back to life, defeats the Druun forever, and fixes everything to how they were before Everyone who had been turned to stone, including Raya’s father and the other dragons, are back to life. The film ends with the reunification of Kumandra, as the once-divided people come together happily.
Raya and the Last dragonis a movie that teaches us trust, forgiveness and teamwork are more powerful than fighting. It teaches us that healing only begins if we learn to trust again.
