Fashion according to the web is a term used to describe the creation of clothing , footwear , accesories , cosmetics of different aesthetics and matching them into outfits that depict distinctive ways of dressing or personal expression. Fashion has changed over the decades alot and a prime example of it is how children before us dressed , how we dressed and how the children of this generation dress. We were basically our parent’s dress up dolls when we were kids as they dressed us up in either what was convenient for them or what they thought we looked adorable in . Western Influence and Time triggered a sort of ripple effect on our country with more and more people trying out fashion trends and more businesses starting out.So, how important is Fashion to the West? All the luxury brands and fashionable items were to cater to their materialistic desires . Fashion for them can seem like a luxury as most often show their social status through their dressing. Fashion for many decades was used by the rich to flaunt their money and success. Fashion Brands like Chanel and Dior price their products quite high , which is why most were in it for the tags rather than admiring the dress. Odd Dressing was also considered a peculiar practice done by rich people . In the Early 1800's ,when the rich celebrated by throwing Masquerade and Balls . All the guests used to come in bizarre and overexaggerated dresses. Though Queer , the rich found the practise of exaggerated clothing to be noble and fun but the same time the rich threw their absurd circuses for their own amusement , the poor working class were starving with not even the warmth of hearths to heat their tired bones. It was a clear insult to their hunger and their poverty aided by the fact it was around the time , the infamous Marie Antionette was rumoured to show satirical anxiety for the well-being of her people , the vermin. So, during the French Revolution, clothing became a powerful symbol of class rebellion, particularly through the emergence of the san-culottes, a term that means “without breeches.” Unlike the aristocracy, who wore elegant silk knee breeches ,the working-class revolutionaries adopted long trousers as a deliberate rejection of elite fashion and privilege. This simple shift in dress was more than practical; it was deeply political. By refusing to wear the clothing associated with wealth and power, the sans-culottes visibly aligned themselves with the common people and the revolutionary cause, using fashion to assert their identity and defy the monarchy and aristocracy. Not only against aristocracy Fashion has been used to rebel against racial injustice, ergo The Zoot Suiters or to reject stereotypical and traditional lifestyles ie the hippies and the punks. Fashion is luxury for some people and I consider myself very fortunate to be able to dictate what I wear and have the liberty to choose what I want to wear. But, it’s important to understand the history behind clothes and the significance of your privilege to wear said clothing.Even In today’s world or at least in Nepal’s regressive Society , taaboos exist and they restrict true expression of choice and style.Choosing to wear something bold in this day and age is choosing to honour the countless workers, People of Colour and Women of Colour who have come before us , taking steps into the future one piece of fabric at a time.
